We won’t let dirty utilities buy AZ elections
Dirty utilities like APS are trying to buy AZ elections, but our climate champions are ready to stop them.
- Rocque Perez for State Senate District 20: Perez is a fourth-generation Tucsonan who has worked at Arizona State University where he led academic and civic empowerment programs. After unanimously being appointed to the Tucson City Council, he became the youngest official in city or county government in Arizona. If elected, he’ll be a strong champion for clean energy policies unlike his incumbent opponent who has sided with Republicans in over 150 votes, including for a Constitutional Convention to allow the Trump administration to rewrite the Constitution! In one of the state’s most progressive districts, we need to help elect an actual progressive climate champ like Rocque.
- Lisbeth Arescurenaga for State House District 24: Arescurenaga is a mental health specialist and social worker who has made care more accessible for unaccompanied minors, cancer patients, and those facing homelessness. If elected, she’ll prioritize investment in public transit which her district sorely needs, and take action on climate by supporting clean transportation, clean energy, and efforts to make polluters pay. As Phoenix experiences extreme heat, she’ll also push for environmental justice measures to improve air quality and provide cooling mechanisms for workers and public transit stops.
- Alberto Flores for State House District 24: Flores is an organizer and former legislative aide to the Arizona Department of Child Safety. He is running to replace an incumbent who has accepted campaign contributions from Southwest Gas, and is committed to halting new fossil fuel infrastructure, and instead would vote to accelerate investments in clean energy, solar, storage, energy efficiency, and local green jobs. Climate justice is especially personal in his district because Maryvale and West Phoenix are among the hottest parts of the Valley. If elected, he’ll fight for a heat resilience and shade expansion agenda that prioritizes tree canopy, shaded bus stops and pedestrian routes, cooling centers, energy-efficiency upgrades, and utility assistance.
- Miranda Lopez for State House District 21: Lopez has worked to elect Democrats up and down the ballot and fought for progressive reform in Arizona as an organizer for the state Democratic party, the AZ Student Association, and with Phoenix DSA. After recently serving as the Executive Director of Pima County Democratic Party, she’s hoping to take these skills to the legislature where she’ll help the state invest more into renewable energy, and keep data centers from being built in the desert Southwest.
- Stephanie Stahl Hamilton for State House District 21: Stahl Hamilton is an ordained minister and incumbent legislator who has fought hard in the State House pursuing an equitable transition to clean energy in Arizona in order to strengthen the state’s economy, create jobs, and protect the environment for future generations.
- Lauren Kuby for State Senate District 8: Kuby is a longtime AZ climate advocate and elected climate champ who has been one of the state legislature’s toughest fighters for the climate where she’s helped lead efforts to protect incentives for clean energy, fought back against attacks from private utility companies, and organized for environmental justice efforts. She’s being challenged by a corporate-backed candidate and it’s imperative we help keep her in office to keep fighting for Arizona climate action.
- Brian Garcia for State House District 8: As a first-generation graduate of Tempe public schools, Garcia has worked for the U.S. House of Representatives, Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Pascua Yaqui Tribe, and as a staff attorney for unaccompanied children. In his first term in office, he’s not only voted to stop legislation that would reverse Arizona’s transition to clean energy, but also organized alongside community partners to build local awareness on these efforts.
- Analise Ortiz for State Senate District 24: Ortiz has served in the Assembly and State Senate where she has led on legislation to protect clean air and water,, invest in clean energy, and promote environmental justice. Republicans threatened and failed to expel her from office after she posted about ICE activity in her district and helped lead a walkout of Democratic legislators from a speech by Trump’s “Border Czar” Tom Homan. We need to keep this progressive fighter in office so she can keep fighting for immigrant rights, climate justice, and much more.
- Oscar De Los Santos for State House District 11: As Minority Leader in the House, De Los Santos has been a critical advocate for the climate, and has led the right to stop Republicans from restricting abortion access in Arizona. As head of public policy at the Association of Arizona Food Banks, De Los Santos successfully led the fight to pass a bill that doubled the state’s cash assistance program for low-income families.
- Priya Sundareshan for State Senate District 18: Born and raised in her district, Sundareshan has taught natural resources law at the University of Arizona, advocated for sustainable resource management as an environmental lawyer, and led voter protection efforts and engagement on redistricting within the AZ Democratic Party. As the Senate Democratic Leader, she’s fought hard to help Arizona transition to renewable energy and lessen the effects of climate change.
