Meet the DC candidates standing up to Trump

Washington, DC has been under attack as the Trump Administration attacks its autonomy, and floods the city with ICE and the National Guard. This year, DC has an opportunity to elect strong leaders who will stand up to Trump, and lead on historic municipal climate policy that will build healthy homes, expand public transit, and move DC off of fossil fuels. The city’s Council, in fact, has already passed several sweeping climate policies but many have been defunded or opposed by the current Mayor, making this year’s election for a new Mayor all the more important!

  • Janeese Lewis George for DC Mayor: DC has a true opportunity to elect the next Zohran Mamdani this spring in the campaign to elect Lewis George as mayor, who has already broken grassroots fundraising and canvassing records since her campaign launch! She grew up in the same Ward she represents now – and has been a leader for her community throughout her career as a Councillor and at the Attorney General’s office. In office, she has led on climate and environmental justice by introducing bills to fully replace lead pipes in the city, enforce net-zero building standards, fund affordable social housing that does not rely on fossil fuels, broaden curbside composting, reject an expansion of natural gas infrastructure, champion public transit, and much much more. Her election is a watershed moment for the District’s progressive and climate movements – and we’re so excited to throw our weight behind her campaign this spring!
  • Aparna Raj for DC City Council Ward 1: Raj is a prominent local organizer in the District whose work has helped pass a ballot initiative to raise the minimum wage for tipped workers, elect two progressive councilmembers, help tenants fight back against slum conditions, and much more. She’s a leading candidate in one of the city’s most progressive wards where her election would put a champion for climate justice, affordable housing, utility regulation, tenant rights, and much more on the Council. Aparna is ranked first by local progressive organizations like the DC Working Families Party, DC for Democracy, DSA, and more.
